Vermonters line up to adopt shelter pets from Texas

WILLISTON, Vt. (WCAX) Harvey created a crisis for countless pets in Texas. The shelters there needed to adopt out the dogs they had before Harvey hit so that they can take in others displaced by the storm.

There's where All Breed Rescue in Williston came in. They sent a group of volunteers to bring dogs back to Vermont. They arrived Thursday morning with 34 dogs.

The dogs were ready to start being adopted out Thursday afternoon, and as expected, there was a line of people out the door waiting. Many people were excited and emotional about meeting their new pups.

"When I saw that these dogs were coming up from Texas, I was just moved. And I just wanted her from the minute I saw her picture, I just wanted her," said Karen Drewniak, who adopted the first dog of the day.

Not everyone left with a pet, some of the adoptions are still pending.

All Breed says Thursday broke their record for the most adoptions in one day. And they say there are always more animals there waiting for their forever homes.
