What's in a name? The Vermont Supreme Court is considering a case over South Burlington High School's controversial former mascot name -- the "Rebels."
The South Burlington School Board last year voted to drop the Rebels name and change it to the "Wolves" because of connections to the Confederacy. But a group opposed to the name change continues to press their fight in court.
An attorney representing the residents told the high court Wednesday that the board is using a "protective shield" against its critics. But the the school board's attorney says only the district has the power to make the mascot decision.
