Vt. drug importation bill on its way to governor

MONTPELIER, Vt. (WCAX) A bill allowing Vermont to import cheaper prescription drugs from Canada is on its way to the governor.

The Vermont Senate Monday voted 29-0 to concur with the House passed version of S.175. The bill allows Vermont to contract with an approved Canadian prescription drug wholesaler for the importation of certain popular high cost prescription drugs. The deal, if approved by federal officials, is expected to save residents millions.

Governor Scott has not indicated if he will sign the bill. Administration officials earlier this year said getting approval from federal regulators would be problematic.
