NY health officials say 100 children have rare illness linked to COVID-19
New York State health officials are investigating about 100 cases of a rare syndrome that afflicts children and appears to be connected to the coronavirus.
Gov. Andrew Cuomo said Tuesday a 9-year-old boy in an upstate New York, a region with relatively few cases of coronavirus, is recovering from pediatric multi-system inflammatory syndrome, a Kawasaki disease-like syndrome thought to be related to the virus.
Three children have died and Cuomo is advising all hospitals to prioritize COVID-19 testing for children presenting with symptoms. Officials urged parents to call their pediatricians if their children exhibit symptoms including persistent fever, rash, abdominal pain and vomiting.
Other cases of the illness have been reported in Connecticut and New Jersey.
