ESSEX JUNCTION, Vt. (WCAX) Dogs of all breeds, shapes and sizes turned out Sunday to support their four-legged friends.
Dogs filled the fairgrounds in Essex Junction. Pet Food Warehouse has been hosting a yearly fundraiser at its store in Williston for the past three years. This year, the business decided to go big with a festival for animals called "Wag it Forward." The festival featured 75 vendors including homemade dog biscuits, and various leash makers from across the state. Demonstrations included dock diving dogs, and the Vermont Police Canine Association. Owners were also encouraged to dress up their pets for a parade where they were awarding various prizes.
"Vermont is a no kill state, so unlike some of the rescues in the South, we don't euthanize dogs so by supporting (shelters) you're helping them financially take care of the dogs with medical issues, feeding them," said event organizer Siobhan Philbin.
Proceeds from the event help support 27 animal rescue shelters from around the state.
