The search for a missing person in Stowe has now turned into a recovery effort. Stowe Police responded to a call just before 4 PM for a report of a person that had fallen through the ice at Bingham Falls.

Bingham Falls is just off Mountain Road, close to Stowe Mountain Resort. The Johnson Fire dive team was brought in to attempt a water rescue, but those efforts were called off as the sun set. The Stowe Police chief says the individual was with one other person at the time.

“Preliminary investigation shows so far from what we've spoken to witnesses and things that the person was walking down there and slipped on some ice and fell and went though the ice and into the water and didn't come back up,” said Stowe Police Chief Donald Hull.

The Chief says crews will be out searching Saturday morning.
