BURLINGTON, Vt. (WCAX) There's a push to help more parents in Vermont pay for child care.
Friday, Congressman Peter Welch announced legislation he's introduced. It's called the Child Care for Working Families Act and it's meant to expand the access families have to affordable, high-quality child care. Welch says it's a top priority for him to make this a reality for Vermonters.
"Single parents or two-partner families, they have to both work, and that's just the reality. The cost of child care in some cases can be $250-$300 a week. It exceeds what some can reasonably afford to pay," said Welch, D-Vermont.
Welch calls it a hefty bill saying it would cost $50 billion a year if it passes.
