What do sanctions against Iran mean for us?

BURLINGTON, Vt. (WCAX) Many people in the U.S. are wondering what will happen now that President Trump has issued new sanctions against Iran. The sanctions just took effect and will get stronger over time. They will affect Iran's ability to buy U.S. dollar banknotes and gold, and play a role in the country's auto industry and sovereign debt.

The European Commission, France, Germany and the United Kingdom all criticized the Trump administration's plan. But the president says this needs to happen.

So how does it affect you? UVM Professor Peter Henne's research focuses on the Middle East and global religious politics. He spoke with our Galen Ettlin about these new sanctions and what this all means for us here at home. Watch the video for the full interview.
