Will 2019 be the year for the Champlain Parkway?

Originally called the Southern Connector, the road was designed to get people off Interstate 189 and into downtown Burlington more quickly. A tiny portion of it was built in 1988. Since then-- nothing. But Burlington's economic development director says 2019 could be the year.

"Now, we're probably looking at two years to construction and we're still on track for that. I know we've said that for a long time, but we're still on track for that. We've been able to get the Vermont Rail Company recently to work with us on a deal, so that will be clear. That's kind of smoother sailing for us in terms of moving that forward," said Noelle MacKay of CEDO.

We've heard the "two years to construction" line dating back to the Clavelle administration. The project has cleared many regulatory and legal hurdles, including a challenge to the Supreme Court.
