Bethel woman killed in Route 12 crash

Police say a Bethel woman died in a crash Tuesday after hitting a bridge that was under construction.

It happened around 5:40 p.m on Route 12 in Bethel. Police say Jenna Townsend, 24, was driving near Spring Hollow Road when she crashed in a construction zone, hitting the abutment for a new bridge over Gilead Brook. She died from her injuries.

Police say Townsend was involved in another crash prior to the fatal accident on the same section of Route 12 near the Bethel Drive-in. They say speed appears to be a factor.
