Goodtimes Gallery owner's mom sentenced for obstruction of justice

BURLINGTON, Vt. (WCAX) The mother of a Burlington business owner who was convicted of using his store to sell pot was sentenced Thursday in federal court on charges of conspiracy to obstruct justice.

Federal authorities say Donna Mahar, 61, and former Goodtimes Gallery owner Derek Spilman coached another family member to lie to investigators and take the blame for vandalism at a Church Street store owned by a government witness that Spilman committed. They say Mahar even went so far as to cut the family member's hair to better match Spilman’s.

Mahar was sentenced to one day in prison, six months of home detention, three years supervised release and a $10,000 fine.

Spilman is already serving a two-year sentence for his role in the crime.
