The associate of a Vermont man found shot to death by the side of a rural road last month is facing charges he carried ammunition across state lines.

Law enforcement officials say 51-year-old Shawn Whitecomb was an associate of Michael Pimental, who was found shot to death in Concord Oct. 14.

Police say Whitcomb and his 27-year-old daughter Krystal Whitcomb were involved in a heroin ring with Pimental. Both have pleaded not guilty to heroin charges.

The Caledonian Record reports Whitcomb is charged with transporting ammunition across state lines the day before Pimental's body was found.

Whitcomb's defense attorney Ian Carleton says there is no indication police consider Whitcomb a suspect in Pimental's death. Carleton wants his client to be sent to a drug rehabilitation program.
