Monday, January 7th

NORTHFIELD, Vt. -- Despite finishing with a 34-20 edge in shots on goal, the No. 2 Plattsburgh State women's ice hockey team fell, 4-1, to No. 5 Elmira College in the championship game of Norwich University's East-West Hockey Classic Monday at Kreitzberg Arena.

As a result of their performances during the tournament, senior goaltender Kassi Abbott and senior forward Courtney Moriarty were named to the All-Tournament Team.

Senior forward Katie Granato led the Elmira offense with a hat trick, while sophomore forward Annie Katonka scored on the power play for the Cardinals' lone goal of the contest.

Both teams capitalized on their chances with the extra skater, as Plattsburgh State was 1-for-3 on the power play, while Elmira was 1-for-5.

Kassi Abbott made 16 saves in the loss for the Cardinals, while Stephanie Martin turned aside 33 shots in the win for the Soaring Eagles.

Junior forward Kelley Madden scored the game-winning goal with 54 seconds left in overtime to lift the fifth ranke Norwich University women's ice hockey team to a huge 5-4 win over No. 1 Adrian College on Monday afternoon at Kreitzberg Arena.

Sophomore forward KC Herne created a turnover in the Adrian zone by stripping a Bulldog defender and pushing the puck ahead to Madden as she was dragged down to the ice. Madden skated in and jammed the puck past Adrian goalie Kate Turner to send the home crowd into a frenzy and clinch third place in the East-West Hockey Classic for the second straight season.

Madden scored her first two goals of the season and was named to the East-West Hockey Classic All-Tournament team for her efforts. Junior defenseman Kirsten Watts also notched a goal and an assist to lead the Cadets' offense in the victory.

Adrian out-shot Norwich 39-37. Emily Lambert made 34 saves for the Cadets to improve to 7-2 on the season. Kate Turner made 32 saves for Adrian to fall to 7-3 on the year.
