The Arlington Boys and Girls Soccer teams swept the D4 titles Saturday in Bellows Falls while the Thetford girls repeated in D3 at Randolph. After being washed out Saturday afternoon, the Stowe boys made it seven straight D3 titles Wednesday night at Castleton.
Both of Arlington's wins were shutouts, as the Eagle girls got a hat tick from Tess Belnap to beat Proctor 3-0 for the second consecutive year. The Eagle boys meanwhile took down West Rutland 1-0 on an overtime winner from Lewis Whalen, giving them their first state championship since a D3 title in 1995.
The Thetford girls have bounced back from a 2016 title game defeat to take the last two championships in D3, the latest coming in a 2-1 win Saturday over Vergennes. Kiana Johnson and Namya Benjamin scored the Panthers' two goals off set pieces.
The Stowe boys had to wait a little while to win their seventh straight D3 title, as unplayable field conditions at Randolph Saturday afternoon forced their game to be moved to Wednesday night at Castleton. The Raiders took down Twin Valley in the semifinals or later for the fourth consecutive year with a 1-0 win on the turf at Dave Wolk Stadium. Jace Boerger scored the only goal in the contest.
