RUTLAND, Vt. (WCAX) St. Johnsbury, Fair Haven, and WIndsor were crowned state champions Saturday at Rutland High School to close the high school football season.
The D-1 final was a rematch from a year ago. The Hilltoppers avenged a loss to Hartford with a 33-32 win, holding off the Hurricanes from inside their own ten on the final play of the game. It's the first D-1 title in program history, and the first at any level since 1994.
In D-2, Cameron Coloutti accounted for six total touchdowns as Fair Haven rolled Bellows Falls 46-20. The Terriers were the defending champions, but they had no answer for the second seeded Slaters, who opened up a 26-0 lead in the first half and coasted to their first title since 2011.
The Windsor County showdown in D-3 went to the defending champion Yellow Jackets, who edged rival Woodstock 13-7 in overtime. It was the second time this season Windsor beat the Wasps in OT. Jake Tucker scored both touchdowns for the Jackets, and Dakota Page ended Woodstock's overtime possession with an interception.
