Stephanie Joseph of CVU, Preston Gordon of Essex, and the South Burlington doubles team of Ryan Anderson and Michael Cafiero claimed state titles in individual tennis Saturday.
Joseph capped a repeat of girls singles by taking down Woodstock's Momo Biele 6-0, 6-0 at the Edge in Essex.
"I had no idea that it would be 6-0, 6-0," Joseph said. "I just went out there and the first few games were tough but then once I found my rhythm it kind of just clicked for me. I mean, winning the individual title feels amazing, but I think it's all gonna come down to the playoffs like with the team. I think that's what's gonna really cap it off."
Over at the Edge in South Burlington, Gordon pulled the same feat in boys singles with a 6-0, 6-1 defeat of CVU's Josh Ashooh.
"It's just a lot of hard work on the tennis court," Gordon said. "I get a lot of help from coaches and players that I play with. It feels good, we'll try to get the team win too this year. I'm looking forward to that."
Anderson and Cafiero were similarly dominant as they beat Montpelier's Ben Hancock-Song and Cole Bingham 6-1, 6-0.
The tennis team tournaments begin on Tuesday.
