RICHMOND, Va. (WCAX) Ernie Duncan tallied 21 points to lead Vermont, as the Catamounts emerged with a 71-65 win over the Spiders Wednesday night in Richmond. It's the first true road win for UVM over an Atlantic 10 school since they beat Rhode Island in Kingston in February of 1976.
U of R didn't make it easy on Vermont: the Cats never led by more than eight points, and UVM led by only two after Khwan Fore made a layup with 1:49 remaining in the game. All five of Richmond's starters were in double figures, but the Spiders only got two points total from their bench.
Anthony Lamb tallied 14 points and Trae Bell-Haynes added ten as the Cats claimed their sixth consecutive win since falling at Kentucky in the season opener.
The Cats will continue their road trip on Saturday when they visit Lewisburg, Pa. to take on Bucknell. The Bison will be Vermont's third opponent of the season that qualified for the 2017 NCAA Tournament.
