Middlebury, Norwich set up Primelink championship showdown

Friday, November 23rd

NORTHFIELD, Vt. -- The rival Norwich and Middlebury men's hockey teams will meet in the finals of the 21st annual Primelink Great Northern Shootout Saturday at Kreitzberg Arena.

In the Shootout opener Friday night, Middlebury knocked off #15 Plattsburgh 3-0 to advanced to the tournament final for the first time since 2013.

In the nightcap, Norwich knocked off #2 Adrian 3-2. That was a rematch of last season's NCAA national semifinals, won 5-4 in overtime by the Cadets, who then went on to win the NCAA championship.

Norwich and Middlebury will meet in the Primelink Championship Saturday night at 7pm. Plattsburgh and Adrian will play in the consolation game at 4pm.

Saturday's championship will mark the 155th all-time meeting between the two intrastate rivals. Norwich won both of last year's meetings and is 11-1-3 in the last 15 meetings with the Panthers. Middlebury still holds the all-time lead at 80-65-9 that dates back to 1926.
