ESSEX, Vt. (WCAX) The 17th annual Travis Roy Foundation Wiffleball Tournament continued Saturday at Little Fenway, Little Wrigley, and the Little Field of Dreams in Essex and passed a major milestone.
As of 11 a.m. Saturday, the 2018 edition of the tournament had raised $575,024, putting the 17-year total at just under $5.2 million raised for spinal cord injury research and support.
After the money count was revealed, the tournament's namesake marveled at how far they've come.
"Well, $5 million dollars this tournament has raised over the last 17 years, keep in mind the first year we raised 4 thousand dollars," Roy said. "The second year I don't even think we raised ten so there's a lot of momentum going on here, which is pretty rare for an event that's been going on for 17 years. But it keeps snowballing, the opportunities, the love, the magic. I hope that everybody in the surrounding area would come out and witness this for yourself. You'd be really proud of what's going on here in Essex."
