UVM Field Hockey Beaten by Quinnipiac

BURLINGTON, Vt. Sophomore goalie Sierra Espeland (9 saves) made several key stops against Quinnipiac (1-1), but in the end the Bobcats pulled out a 2-1 victory over UVM (0-2) on a rainy Sunday afternoon at Moulton Winder Field.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Sophomore Pleun Haantjes recorded a defensive save after a pair of Espeland saves on three consecutive shots from from QU's Bianka Strubbe in the 17th minute to keep the match scoreless.
Quinnipiac's Mikayla Adams scored the afternoon's first goal in the 20th minute after deflecting a centering pass from Ines Ruiz Martinez past Espeland.
Ten minutes later, Carla Godsman ran by the Bobcat defense and slotted the ball past a diving Hannah Teicher (6 saves) to tie the game at 1-1.
Valerie Adams scored the deciding goal in the 41st minute, knocking home a rebound following a QU penalty corner.
Vermont had several penalty corners with a chance to tie the game in the second half, including five consecutive opportunities. The Bobcat defense prevented several shots from reaching Teicher.
Quinnipiac held a 13-11 shot advantage while Vermont had a 7-4 advantage in penalty corners.
WHO'S NEXT
Vermont hosts UMass next Sunday (Sept. 2) at Moulton-Winder Field. The Minutemen and Catamounts are slated to begin at 1 p.m.
