ANN ARBOR, Mich. (WCAX) The Vermont men's hockey team scored the first two and final three goals of the game in a 5-2 upset victory Saturday on the road at #4 Michigan.
Alex Esposito tallied the first two goals to stake Vermont out to a 2-0 lead, but the Wolverines responded to tie the game midway through the first. But when Matt O'Donnell scored on a deflection later in the period, UVM would never trail again.
Stef Lekkas was huge in net for Vermont, as he stopped 48 of 50 shots, setting a new career high.
Vermont will play an exhibition game Thursday at the Gut against Laurentian before playing their regular season home opener Saturday against Quinnipiac.
