BURLINGTON, Vt. (WCAX) Geo Alves and Jon Arnar Barddal tallied on either side of halftime as the Vermont men's soccer team claimed its fourth consecutive win in a 2-0 decision Sunday afternoon at Virtue Field.
The Cats got the scoring started just over six minutes into the game. Barddal came up with a steal just outside the box, sent it over to Justin Freitas, who then one-touched it with the outside of his foot to find Alves sneaking into the box. Alves controlled it before using the inside of his foot to curl it around the keeper for the opening tally.
Vermont kept the pressure on all game looking for the insurance goal, recording 21 shots, nine of them on target. Finally, in the 85th minute, Barddal rocketed a tally from 20 yards out to seal the deal.
With the win, Vermont moves to 5-1 on the season and has a good chance to climb into the national rankings when they're released on Monday. UVM was two spots outside the United Soccer Coaches NCAA Division I Men's national poll, among the other's receiving votes, last week.
