WASHINGTON COUNTY, Vt. (WCAX) - Measles has been detected in Washington County wastewater, according to the Vermont Health Department.

Officials found the virus during routine testing earlier this week.

The detection indicates someone with measles has been present in the community, but it does not identify any specific active measles cases.

The discovery comes as measles cases rapidly increase across the country.
