Eagle Scouts honored at Vermont Statehouse
MONTPELIER, Vt. (WCAX) - Eagle Scouts and their contributions to their communities were honored Friday at the Statehouse.
The latest class of 46 Eagle Scouts has had an estimated $400,000 economic impact on Vermont through volunteering for towns and nonprofits.
This June marks the 100th anniversary of the congressional charter that started scouting. Leaders say scouting is a way to instill community values and a civic mindset.
“Scouting is an effective grassroots leadership that focuses on age-appropriate methods to develop character, promote personal fitness, and educate youth on active leadership,” said Leena Jomaa of Bennington.
The scouts accrued over 10,000 hours of community service this year. Eagle Scout is the highest rank in the Scouting America organization.
